An active chamber musician.
Emily Hu began her cello studies at the age of 14 with Mara Finkelstein. She earned her Bachelor of Music in Cello Performance at the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University, where she studied with Norman Fischer, graduating summa cum laude in 2008. She went on to receive her Master’s degree in Cello Performance in 2011 at Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music, from the internationally renowned studio of Hans Jorgen Jensen.
Emily has been a soloist with the Sonus Chamber Orchestra in Houston, TX and the Music in the Mountains chamber music series in Killington, VT, and she has served as a performing and teaching artist-in-residence at several summer festivals across the country. As a chamber musician, Emily has collaborated with Yo-Yo Ma, Lynn Harrell, Anssi Karttunen, and members of the Vermeer String Quartet. Most recently, she is an alumna of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and the winner of the 2013 Farwell Award from the Musicians Club of Women in Chicago.
